IndieIRC has three globally diverse IRCd servers, with native IPv6 networking available via our irc.indieirc.net address. Each of our servers is accessible from the ports 5000, 6665-6669 for plain text, and 6697 and 6670 for SSL. We host on virtual private servers with excellent network uptime and latency.
For the protection of the network against spam and other malicious activity, IndieIRC operates an open proxy scanner. Users connecting to the network will be automatically scanned to ensure that their system is not operating any open proxies. This scan is entirely harmless to your computer system, and in the majority of cases you won't even notice it. If you have any questions about this, please feel free to ask in our #help channel.
IndieIRC is an entirely non-commercial venture, and staff members do not make any personal profit from the network. The costs for the network come to roughly $20/mo per server (around $60/mo total), and are covered entirely by the IndieIRC administration and through donations. If you are interested in donating to the network, or if you just have further questions regarding the network, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Our general philosophy in running the network is to provide our userbase with what it wants - we take a relatively laissez faire approach to moderation of the network, with our user conduct policy being fairly non-demanding. This said, we are always keen to keep up to date with our communities so as to best provide the service they require: in this spirit, we also invite our users to get as involved as they wish in network management. Our #staff channel on the network is open-access, allowing users to join in with discussions regarding network management, thereby becoming involved with the network and helping to shape its future direction. In addition we welcome everyone to help answer other user's queries in the #help channel on the network. We are very open to any other offers of help with the network; if you have an idea, please let us know!
